TMJ - Temporo-Mandibular Joint Dysfunction
|
![]() |
| The letters TMJ stand for the Jaw Joint, or Temporo-mandibular Joint. This complex joint is both a hinged and sliding joint. It is formed by ligaments, bone, cartilage, muscle, blood vessels and nerves. It is the most used joint in the body since it is used for eating and talking. It can be damaged by accidents (i.e. car accidents), overuse (excessive gum chewing or grinding the teeth) or by abnormalities of the body (arthritis and other problems). If you are having a problem with your jaw joint, the most common symptoms are: clicking of the joint when you open or close your mouth, headaches (or migraines), jaw muscle pain, or limitation in opening or closing your mouth. Dr. Waese will need to see you personally to find out why you are suffering with jaw joint problems. He can advise you how to get better. |
