Orthodontic Tips April 30, 2011
Would you have your teeth straightened at the age of 71?
This week I met a gentleman of 71 years who wanted his lower teeth straightened. He had a full upper denture and ten lower anterior teeth. His wife noticed that his lower teeth were starting to crowd up and sent him to get them straightened.
Indeed they were starting to crowd up. They were losing periodontal support and were tipping lingually following the inclined occlusal plane of the upper denture.
I’ve treated patients in their 70’s before. However this gentleman’s quiet presence was different.
There are two ways I saw that this consultation was instigated. It could have been a situation that “my wife told me to go and here I am.” Or it might be a glimpse of a love story. “My wife saw something and she wants me to take care of it because she loves me. I love her so here I am.”
I haven’t been introduced to his wife yet but I saw her across the office paying the bill. It seemed that she had a lot of pride and love for her husband as she chatted while the transaction went through.
Of course I always work hard for my patients but this one is going to be special.
Have a great week.
