“It’s cloud illusions I recall. I really don’t know clouds at all.” Joni Mitchell.
Before my holiday I met an autistic boy for a consultation. He was 8 years old with mild incisor crowding and a deep bite.
My recommendation was to extract the primary cuspids for incisor alignment and a maxillary bite plane to open the deep bite. The treatment plan for this problem is very straightforward.
Mom’s face fell.
Her mind was trying to picture what her son could handle.
I felt like I was standing on clouds. Here was a situation where I felt my footing was solid but apparently it was not.
“Do you want to come back next year and we can talk about this again?” was the best I could think of.
We did settle on a go slow approach to test how her son would handle the extractions.
The song “Cloud illusions” sticks in my mind. How did Joni Mitchell know?
Have a great week.
