“God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.”
This is the Serenity Prayer.
I was talking to several dentists this week about the state of the economy. Apparently everyone is experiencing a slow down. It is easiest to think that when things don’t go the way we want them to that it is our fault. Well apparently it is not so. That’s when the
serenity prayer comes in. We can’t change the events that shape the world and the economy. But, we can change what is happening directly around us.
We need to have the confidence that what we have always done well is still valid.
When we have the need to improve and change to respond to what the world gives us, then we should do that too. And pray to have the wisdom to know the difference.
How does that translate into our practice of dentistry? We need to take our strong points and use them. Examples would be our relationship and communication with our patients. Another example is the expertise of our work. We can enjoy the thrill of completing our daily work with precision and skill.
On the change part, we need to count! Count what? Expenses and income is what we need to count. Be creative, be realistic and change what needs changing.
Let’s support each other.
Have a great week.
